This piano tutor book follows on from Book 1 which I have found the best series for younger children. It is nice and easy for them to read in large print, with clear explanations. At this stage the pupil learns to co-ordinate the hands, enjoy familiar tunes and to achieve a sense of rhythm. I can thoroughly recommend it!

This is a classic second book for youngsters starting to learn the piano. It continues from book one with slightly more complex music. I recommend it for any young beginner learning piano or keyboard to supplement the work they will do in their lessons.

Lovely tutor book for beginners aged 5-8 years. Nice large print, amusing illustrations, good explanation throughout and theory exercises alongside notational teaching. Accompaniments for the teacher to play with the pupil are a real encouragement for them. I would highly recommend this series.

I haven't used this book before, but BK 1 with CD was enjoyed so much my 6 and 7 year old pupils I decided to continue with this series. So far pupils love it as much as Bk 1!

My son started learning on this course and I was very impressed with it. There were pictures on every page helping him find his way around the keyboard, and lots of fun drawings so it was easy to understand. And the teacher's (or parent's) accompaniment made even the dullest two note tunes sound more musical. We got a lot of enjoyment playing together - which was very motivating, especially at such an early stage in his learning. I've just bought this again for my father to learn from as, in spite of it being obviously targeted at children, I thought the approach was so good.

Much better than Number 1. This proceeds at quite a good pace and by the end of the book, my daughter is beginning to sound quite accomplished. It has been reasonably easy for me to help her using this book and so I give it a big thumbs up for its easy explanations.

I find the John Thompson Piano Course ideal for teaching young beginners. The progress is quite steady, but it gives the students time to master each new concept and technique. The pieces are pleasant to listen to and the students generally enjoy playing them.

Book 2 provides a good pace of development for the beginner and my pupils have found it helpful in moving on from work started in Book One

I really like the John Thompson Easiest Piano course for its child-friendly but no-nonsense approach to reading and theory and the tunes are all pleasant. However, I find some pupils hit a "brick wall" midway through this book. After going through book 1 adding one new note every few pages (keeping both thumbs on middle C) suddenly there is a change of right hand postition adding three new notes at once and a couple pages later the same with the left hand. I find I have to use lots of additional material to build confidence with all the new notes. Alternatively I use Chesters Easiest piano course book 2 instead (the tunes aren't as nice but the progess is more natural) and return to John Thomas for book 3 or 4.
